Extended Biography
Dr Laura Hellman grew up in central North Carolina where she was very active in her local Pony Club in addition to training and competing horses in 3-day Eventing, Hunters/Jumpers, and Polocrosse. After graduating from veterinary school at NC State University she completed a rotating internship at Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery in Weatherford, Tx where she had the opportunity to work on horses used predominantly for Western performance events.
Dr Hellman worked for four years in Equine general practice with an emphasis on Sports Medicine and dentistry before transitioning to Small Animal practice. She was a Chief of Staff with Banfield Pet Hospital in Wichita, KS for seven years and in that time enjoyed growing her hospital as well as mentoring several other veterinarians. Since early 2019, Dr Hellman has worked at Andover Veterinary Clinic and is an Area Medical Director for Pet Partners USA.
After receiving training in Animal Chiropractic and Veterinary Acupuncture also started her own business, Integrative Animal Care, to provide treatment in those modalities for horses. Her medical interests include preventive care, pain management, and client education to promote the human-animal bond. She has also greatly enjoyed mentoring her associate doctors and teaching veterinary students participating in externships in her hospitals.
Dr Hellman resides on a small farm in Augusta, KS with her husband Michael and their two horses, five dogs, two cats, and several chickens.
